Ting Stories

About Ting

Ting is a colourful series of much loved children’s books written and illustrated by English author Michelle Douglas. The books began publication in December 2021.

The stories follow the adventures of Ting the octopus. Ting lives a comfortable life in Hawaii but having been tempted by dreams of travel he decides to embark on a new life as an explorer.

There are 300 types of octopus located in every Ocean of the World. Ting represents an amalgamation of many known octopus traits as well as adding a few unique skills of his own like waterskiing and juggling.

The animals and people illustrated in the books are drawn to be recognisable and accurate to the real life locations depicted. Michelle met Nancy and Ed from Book 3 on a cruise in 2019! Being a well travelled diver the author wanted both children and the adults reading to them, to get a sense of our beautiful and varied World both above and below the water.

The books are inclusive and fun with interesting animal facts. They make good travel companions as they are light and compact.

Additional information about the real animals and locations in the series are added to the Tingstories.com website to encourage fans of the books to continue with their own adventure of learning and discovery.

About the Author

Michelle Douglas is an author and illustrator who lives in Berkshire, UK with her Husband Steve, their dog Butler and their two cats Pax and Dolly Pompom.

Before becoming the creator of the Ting series of children’s books Michelle worked in property and financial services. Ongoing health issues meant Michelle eventually had to leave banking and finance for less stressful employment. She started working at her Father-in-law’s engineering business in Reading with her husband. Following her father in law’s death in March 2021 however the engineering firm closed down and Michelle was made redundant.

The onset of fibromyalgia meant returning to a 9-5 role wasn’t possible, so Michelle set about pursuing her lifelong passion of art and illustration. In addition to the Ting story books Michelle sells and exhibits her artwork and gives art lessons at her home.

Michelle and her Husband are keen travellers and recreational divers. Being particularly fascinated by the undersea world, Michelles artwork often depicts the animals and locations seen during their holidays.

In addition to her art Michelle loves singing and playing the ukulele.

If you would like Michelle to attend your event or child’s school please contact us to discuss arrangements.
